Creative Grounds

Located on Irish Street, ‘Creative Grounds’ occupies the space once home to the party supply shop Funfetti. While change is inevitable, recent years have brought more bittersweet transitions, reflecting broader economic shifts. Yet, owners Alfie O’Sullivan and his partner Kristyna saw an opportunity to put small towns back on the map through creativity, arts, and music.

This sleek, dimly lit venue has become a hub for musicians, performers, artists, and comedians to showcase, discuss, and grow their talent. The walls are adorned with works by local artists, adding to its warm and welcoming atmosphere. The space is cosy, but not in the cramped “New York cosy” sense; rather, it’s inviting and comfortable. Walking through the door feels natural, never intrusive, as the owners have worked hard to create a laid-back, communal vibe. Whether you’re there to relax and chat or to plug in and work, the spacious layout ensures that someone having a conversation isn’t doing it two inches from you and your MacBook—they’re likely across the room.

Beyond its role as a live venue, Creative Grounds offers an eclectic vintage clothing rail where you might stumble upon gently-used band T-shirts or pieces you didn’t even know you needed. Their café keeps customers coming back, with wallet-friendly prices and a friendly, chatty staff.
