Redmonds
Just off the Scarwalsh roundabout, Redmonds pub dates back to 1810—a place that has gracefully sidestepped the flashiness of modern bars. In the hands of five generations of the Redmond family, this pub has weathered the years with an authenticity that’s increasingly rare. Originally run by Mike Redmond, father of Aidan Sr., and later by his wife Margaret until her passing in 2007, this establishment has preserved its old-world charm while withstanding the pressures of modernisation.
Now in the capable hands of Aidan Sr., his wife Theresa, two sons, Dominic and Aidan Jr., the pub only recently introduced beer on tap; until then, it was bottles only—true to its roots. As Aidan Sr. explains to us, “The sitting room, which you can see from the snug bar, is actually part of the house, not the pub. But generations of visitors have always gathered here around the large stove,” which was added after fire regulations required saying goodbye to the original open fire. This pub doesn’t aim to impress with glitz; it’s simply rural Ireland as it was, and as it should be. A recent addition, the ‘barn’ venue space, now provides a covered area for functions and parties, adding a touch of convenience without compromising the pub’s original character.
Pop into Redmond’s and pull up a bar stool for a tipple in one of the most authentic pubs around—with genuine hospitality.
