We stopped by to say ‘hello’to Matt and Annmarie in Matt Mernagh Schoolwear a business that has been located on Slaney Street since 1981 – Perhaps one of the town’s best known shops, it has kitted out countless ‘scalders’ for school – and now it is celebrating 42 years of business…..and Matt has have no plans to slow down just yet!
Matt said “The community have supported us well over the years, I suppose I also had the added advantage that I have been involved in the Duffry Rovers for many years, so all the families down through the years have supported us!” “I was on the road quite a bit, we started off with drapery, and then we branched into schoolwear and it carried on from strength to strength….most recently we have added an Aran range of sweaters for ladies and gents.”
Paying tribute to his team, Matt added: “Customer service? Brilliant. My team are so experienced. (Jokingly) referencing his colleague ‘Her mammy came in one day and asked me – would you be able to get Annmarie a little Summer job ?that’s 17 years ago now”
